Symposium on Frontiers of Nano-scale Catalysis and Electrochemistry
Second circular
Symposium
Frontiers of Nano-scale Catalysis and Electrochemistry
- Proposals for the Research in the 21st Century
-
(CES21)
March 19-21, 2001
Hokkaido University, Sapporo Japan
Organized by
Organizing Committee of CES21 and Co-organized
by
Catalysis Research Center, Hokkaido University
Supported by
Hokkaido Branches of Chemical Society of Japan, Electrochemical Society
of Japan, and Catalysis Society of Japan
Division of Electrocatalysis and Photocatalysis, Catalysis Society
of Japan
The CES21 aims to exchange the ideas and the knowledge in nanometer-scale
catalysis and electrochemistry for further understanding of the catalytic
action to a goal to design the catalysts and electrocatalysts from nano-scale
atomic and molecular behavior. The CES21 is also organized in commemoration
of centennial birthday of the late Professor Juro Horiuti, who is a
founder of the former Research Institute for Catalysis, presently Catalysis
Research Center of Hokkaido University.
The scope of the CES21
The symposium will consist of invited lectures and poster session. The
poster session is organized with invited and contributed posters. All
the authors of poster are scheduled to give a brief oral presentation
at the auditorium.
The CES21 lecture by Professor Ken-ichi Tanaka (University of Tokyo,
presently Saitama Institute of Technology) is scheduled on a title of
``Proposals from nano-scale surface sciences for the 21st century research(tentative).''
Contributors having accepted the presentation at the CES21 are
H. D. Abruna, U.S.A.

Call for papers of poster
Contributions of poster presentations are very much welcomed.
Deadline of submission of poster: November 15, 2000
Deadline of abstracts: January 31, 2001
Camera-ready copy of the abstract of 1 or 2 pages of A4 size (21.0×29.27
cm) in a portrait orientation is asked with 2cm each for top, bottom,
and side margins.
Registration
Advanced registration is asked before January 31, 2001.
Registration fee: 10,000 yen (Student fee will be decided later.)
Banquet fee: 8,000 yen (Student fee will be decided later.)
Climate at Sapporo in the middle of March
Snowy day still remains and the snow is piled at the sides of the road.
Averaged maximum and minimum temperatures are 5 and -
3 oC, respectively.
Accommodation
Keio Plaza Hotel fare is 7,000 yen per night to the participant, which
includes breakfast and service charge but does not include 5 % consumer's
tax. The participants, who would like to reserve the Hotel by the above
fare, should ask the Symposium Secretary for the reservation before
January 31, 2001.
Transportation
For access to Sapporo, Chitose Airport is the nearest airport, domestic
and international, which is directly connected to Amsterdam by KLM,
to Hawaii by JAL, to Hong Kong by Cathy, Seoul by KAL, 瀋陽(China) by
北方航空, Guam(USA) by CS, etc. The other international airports
in Japan are connected to Chitose Airport by the domestic lines. From
Chitose Airport to Sapporo city, limousine buses or JR railways take
us in one hour or 40 min, respectively. CHUO BUS to the central area
of Sapporo City, one of the bus lines, is bound for Keio Plaza Hotel,
the last bus stop.
Excursion
An overnight visit to the hot spring spa (Jozankei) near Sapporo will
be scheduled by participants' request at the cost of ca. 13,000
yen per person on March 21, 2001, provided that a room is shared by
two or three persons. This price includes dinner and breakfast in a
Japanese inn style of the resort hotel. The rate of single occupancy
of a room will be higher. The reservation is necessary before January
