November-December, 2000
  • November 21, 2000 Rearrangement of room 128 (previously a room of storage for documents) has been completed (photo was taken on January 31, 2002). This room would be used for residents, but not for experiments, similar to room 127. Associate Professor Torimoto, Dr. Si, and Ms. Nakamura moved from room 127. Also, room 115 was rearranged.tntn
  • November 15, 2000 Members in our laboratory as well as JICA trainees enjoyed Egyptian foods prepared by Ms. Sahar in an afternoon party at room 127. Thank you! [jpeg: 56K/49K]tn
  • November 14, 2000 A lecture by Professor Kazuhito Hashimoto (Tokyo University) was held at a lecture hall of Graduate School of Science.   • November 13, 2000 Final Report Meeting of JICA trainees was held at a lecture hall of Graduate School of Science. Ms. Sahar (Egypt) reported "Surface Functionalized Y-Zeolite Supported Transition Metal Compounds as Catalysts for Epoxidation of Alkene."tntn
  • November 6, 2000 Ms. Nobue Murata started working as a secretary. A party for welcoming her, saying good bye to Mr. Yuki Saito, who will change his major to Division of Bioscience since December 1, 2000, and birthday of Ms. Chigusa Abe was held in room 127. [jpeg: 71K/20K]
  • November 2, 2000 Associate professor Tsukasa Torimoto has been involved in Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science and started working for investigation and education as a member of Division of Material Science.

September-October, 2000
  • October 31, 2000 The 12th annual report meeting of Catalysis Research Center was held in Centennial Hall, Hokkaido University under the management by our laboratory. Visiting professor, Dr. Kazunari Domen (Tokyo Institute of Technology) and associate professor Kei Murakoshi (Osaka University) also reported their recent progress and Professor Makoto Onaka gave an invited talk [poster, jpeg: 109K].
  • October 20, 2000 Ms. Mayumi Matsumoto, a successor of Ms. Nuka, retired for the preparation of her marriage. Congratulations!!!
  • October 17, 2000 A party for welcome Dr. Torimoto and farewell Ms. Matsumoto was held in room 127. A main dish was "Hiroshima-Yaki."
  • October 1, 2000 Dr. Tsukasa TORIMOTO (worked for in Osaka University as an instructor ) joined us as Associate Professor.tn
  • September 28, 2000 Professor Teruhisa Ohno (Osaka University), visiting our center, gave us a lecture "Correlation between structure of titanium dioxide photocatalyst and photocatalytic activity for selective oxidation of organic compounds". A picture taken at a certain place in Sapporo.
  • September 27, 2000 Dr. Pal, COE Postdoctoral Research Fellow presented his recent results on "Photocatalytic Reaction of Amino Acid in Aqueous Suspension of Mercury(II) Sulfide" at Fall Meeting of Electrochemical Society of Japan and Symposium on Photochemistry.
  • September 22, 2000 Dr. Nur, JSPS Postdoctoral Research Fellow presented his recent results on "Phase Boundary Catalysis" at Fall Meeting of Catalysis Society of Japan.
  • tnSeptember 2-5, 2000 Dr. Hiroshi Kominami (Lecturer, Kinki University) stayed in our laboratory for collaboration work on photocatalysis. A picture was taken with Mr. Kataoka (Eiko-sha, Osaka) and Dr. Ikeda at a photoreaction apparatus.

  • August 16, 2000 30,000 accesses since January 1999 have been recorded. We appreciate the visits to our web page. A number of daily access is approximately 60 since 20,000 accesses.
  • July 28, 2000 The council of our center decided to employ Dr. Tsukasa Torimoto (Osaka University) as an associate professor in our laboratory. He will join us from October 1, 2000.tntntn
  • July 26, 2000 A party for welcome Ms. Matsumoto and farewell Ms. Nuka was held in room 127 after playing bowling at Teisen Bowl.   • July 25, 2000 Professor Susumu Kuwabata visited us to give a special lecture for JICA trainees and a talk "Electrochemistry of Enzyme Fixed Electrodes" in the Catalysis Research Center Seminar (cosponsored by Hokkaido Branch of Electrochemical Society of Japan) in morning and afternoon.
  • July 17, 2000 Ms. Matsumoto, a successor of Ms. Nuka, started working as a secretary. To the end of July, both worked.
  • July 7, 2000 BBQ party of Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science was held at a space in front to the building. Members in our laboratory joined and enjoyed eating and talking.
  • July 6, 2000 "Hiroshima-Yaki" party was held in room 127 to celebrate Mr. Sugiyama who got decision of employment to a patent office in Tokyo.

  • June 30, 2000 Ceremony, symposium, and party celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Hokkaido Branch of Electrochemical Society of Japan were held. Dr. Ikeda presented a poster at the symposium [presentation].[jpeg: 18K].
  • June 15-23, 2000 Professor Ohtani gave four lectures for three classes of freshmen [Lecture (Japanese only)].
  • June 16, 2000 The interim report meeting of graduate student of Division of Material Science, Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science was held. Mr. Sugiyama, a sole student of second year in our laboratory, presented there.tntntn
  • June 2, 2000 BBQ party to welcome Dr. Sahar (JICA trainee) and Dr. Si (COE visiting professor) [member] was held in the backyard of center. After the party, the portable range which had been bought for this time was stolen! [jpeg: 46K + 30K + 31K]

  • April 25, 2000 New graduate students, Ms. Chigusa Abe, Mr. Yuki Saito, and Ms. Nao Nakamura started their work relating to photocatalysis. We all expects their successful results [member].
  • April 12, 2000 Professor Ohtani gave a lecture on "Environment and Chemicals: Green Chemistry and Photocatalytic Reaction" as one of the special series lectures for freshmen of Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science.
  • April 10, 1999 Entrance ceremony and guidance of Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science was held in University Hall, Hokkaido University.
  • April 5, 2000 Professor Ohtani was invited to talk on "Direct Evaluation of Recombination Kinetics of Semiconductor Photocatalysts by Ultrafast Laser Spectroscopy" in the session of Photoelectrochemistry of The 67th Annual Meeting of Electrochemical Society of Japan held in Nagoya University [presentation].

  • March 27, 2000 Mr. Sugiyama presented a poster entitled "Photocatalytic Reaction by Transition-Metal-Doped Titanium(IV) Oxide Suspension-Correlation between Electron-Hole Recombination and Photocatalytic Activity" at The 85th Annual Meeting of Catalysis Society of Japan held in Chiba Institute of Technology and discussed with Professor Takagi, who is his supervisor in the undergraduate course in Nihon University. Mr. Murakami (Kinki University) also presented the results of collaboration work with us [presentation][jpeg: 19K+21K].
  • March 24, 2000 The position of associate professor (or lecturer) in our laboratory is now open for application. For details, see the corresponding page in homepage of our center (Japanese only [closed now]). The deadline of application is May 31.
  • March 22, 2000 A new bookshelf, desks and chairs were set in Room 127 for new comers.
  • March 14, 2000 Dr. Ikeda was invited to present a poster entitled "Direct Observation of Electron-Hole Recombination Kinetics in Photoexcited Semiconductor Nanoparticles by Ultrafast Laser Spectroscopy" at The Third SANKEN International Symposium on Advanced Nanoelectronics; Devices, Materials and Computing held at Osaka University [presentation].
  • March 11, 2000 Results of entrance examination (2nd chance) was opened. Mr. Yuki Saito succeeded in joining us. Congratulations!
  • March 10, 2000 Laboratory Ski Tour 2000, Part 1 was held. All the members including their family enjoyed skiing at Sapporo International Ski Area [jpeg: 34K]

January-February, 2000
  • February 23, 2000 Our laboratory has been introduced in "Newsletter of Division of Colloid and Surface Chemistry, The Chemical Society of Japan" volume 25, number 1. A photograph of members was shown [jpeg: 40K].
  • February 9, 2000 Report Meeting of master course students in Division of Material Science, Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science was held. We have no student of second year and therefore no presentation from our laboratory. Next year Mr. Sugiyama will give a talk.
  • February 1, 2000 A headline review article on "Mechanocatalysis" has been published in February issue of "Chemistry and Chemical Industry", an official journal of Chemical Society of Japan. This review article was written by Dr. Ikeda in our laboratory. This chance has been given for the selected young researchers.
  • January 31-February 1, 2000 A final report meeting and a symposium on "Electrochemistry of Ordered Interfaces" sponsored by Ministry of Education was held at Hotel Pole Star Sapporo (North 4, West 6, Sapporo). For details, see homepage (Japanese). Professor Ohtani, a secretary general of this research project, and the other members in our laboratory managed this meeting.tn
  • January 29-30, 2000 A CRC (Catalysis Research Center) Symposium on "Shape Beyond Molecules and Its Function" will be held on January 29-30 at Conference Hall, Hokkaido University. About 100 participants from inside and outside of Hokkaido University have discussed. A poster can been seen [jpeg: 40K]. Professor Ohtani planned, managed, and chaired the symposium and all the members helped the management.
  • January 28, 2000 A deadline of application of entrance examination for Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science (master and Ph. D. courses). Professor Ohtani has informed personally from some undergraduate students in the universities other than Hokkaido University that they sent an application form and want to join us.
