November-December, 2001
  • December 22, 2001 Number of accesses to our web site exceeded 80,000. It took about 8 weeks from the 70,000 accesses with average daily access of approximately 180.
  • December 19, 2001 Interim report meeting in our laboratory to present progress during last half year. Bonenkai (Christmas party) started at Teisen Bowl for bowling games "Ohtani Cup." Dr. Ikeda won the game. Then we moved to Uoya-Iccho to have a party. A part of participant enjoyed billiard. The Christmas party of Catalysis Research Center was held at Keio Plaza Hotel on the next day.tn
  • November 12, 2001 Final report meeting of JICA trainees was held in Lecture Hall of Graduate School of Science. Two trainees in our laboratory presented their nice results (photo: at the tea party after the report meeting).
  • November 16,2001 Both PRESTO research projects applied by Dr. Torimoto and Dr. Ikeda have been accepted by JST and will start from December 2001. They will employ a few postdocs (informations [in Japanese] are available).tn
  • November 2, 2001 Professor Palmisano left Sapporo by an early morning flight via Osaka (a photo was taken at the gate in Shin-Chitose Airport). Thank him for joining us for 3 months!tntntntntntn
  • November 1, 2001 Farewell party for Professor Palmisano was held in room 127. The menu included "Chan-Chan Yaki," "Tako-yaki," and "Teppo-jiru." Professor Palmisano kindly sent us photos at the farewell party.(November 24, 2001)。

September-October, 2001
  • October 29, 2001 Number of accesses to our web site exceeded 70,000. It took about 9 weeks from 60,000 accesses with average daily access of approximately 170. The 100,000 accesses at around April, 2002 is expected.
  • October 26, 2001 A Catalysis Research Center Seminar by Professor Leonardo PALMISANO, a visiting professor in this center, was held in a seminar room in Graduate School of Science. The period 90 min might be too short for him to talk all the subject relating to fundamentals and applications of photocatalysis.
  • October 2, 2001 A class for graduate student entitled "Surface Molecular Dynamics II" has started. Professor Ohtani will give lectures on Semiconductor Photocatalysis as an introduction of almost all fields in chemistry. The details can be browsed from [lecture] (only in Japanese).
  • September 13-15, 2001 Associate Professor Kiyoshi Kanamura visited our center as a lecturer for JICA trainees entitled "Fuel Cell and Electrocatalysis" and a seminar was also held.
  • August 31/September 3, 2001 Due to the break down (8/31) and maintenance (9/3), this web page could not be accessed.tntn
  • August 28-September 3, 2001 Dr. Hiroshi KOMINAMI (Lecturer, Kinki University) stayed in our laboratory for collaboration work. Many members, including Professor PALMISANO discussed with him on photocatalysis. A lecture was given on August 31, 2001.

  • August 21-24, 2001 Associate Professor Susumu KUWABATA stayed in our laboratory for collaboration work. Many members discussed with him on several topics. tn
  • August 10, 2001 BBQ party was held in a back yard of Catalysis Research Center for welcoming Professor Palmisano's family and for celebrating Mr. Viraclles's graduation from Japanese Training Course.
  • August 9, 2001 Interim report meeting of all the members of our laboratory was held in room 127. After the meeting, we have a summer vacation from August 11 to 19. Experiments during the period was prohibited in principle.tn
  • August 7, 2001 Mr. Ryujiro Fujita (Sapporo Asahigaoka High School) and Mr. Daisuke Takashima (Obihiro Hakuyo High School), who attended the "Summer School in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering," visited us to perform "A World by Photocatalysis: Environmental Pollution Control by Light." They experienced preparation of thin films of titanium(IV) oxide and their application to aerobic decomposition of organic compounds.
  • August 1, 2001 Professor Leonardo PALMISANO (Palermo University, Italy) and his family arrived at Sapporo. He stays for 3 months as a visiting professor. He is a specialist in photocatalytic reaction and its application to environmental processes.
  • July 26-27, 2001 Aurora Seminar organized and sponsored by Hokkaido Branch of Catalysis Society of Japan was held in Ashibetu Star Light Hotel. Almost all the members of our laboratory attended. Associate Professor Tsukasa TORIMOTO gave an invited lecture entitled "Photocatalytic Reaction by Semiconductor Nano Particles" and Ms. Nao NAKAMURA presented at the poster session.

  • Jun 28, 2001 Number of accessed from the opening of this page reached 50,000 times. About 130 days were needed to count 10,000 form 40,000 times to give an average of 80 accesses per day. At the count of about 49,000, the regulation of counting was changed to result in the two or three times larger accesses.tntn
  • June 25-July 9, 2001 Ms. Mai MATSUSHITA, studying in International School in Venezuela visited our labo to perform "photocatalytic reaction experiments" for her essay. She will stay in Sapporo by July 9, 2001.
  • June 18, 2001 A script of counter was improved. Previously, accesses to only Japanese and English top pages were counted. Now, visit to all pages are counted.
  • June 8, 2001 A form-mail page (Japanese only) of information requests for the entrance examination of Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science has been made.
  • May 28, 2001 An opening ceremony for the 15th Group Training Course of Catalytic Science for JICA trainees. This time, we accept two trainees out of 9, Ms. Jocelyn Paz REYES (Philippines) and Ms. Duangkamol CHAOSRIMUD (Thailand).
  • May 11, 2001 The interim report meeting of graduate student of Division of Material Science, Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science was held. Ms. Nao Nakamura presented there.

  • March 26-April 4, 2001 Spring annual meetings of Catalysis Society of Japan (at Kansai University), Chemical Society of Japan (at Konan University) and Electrochemical Society of Japan (ECSJ; at Kobe University) were held and members in our laboratory attended and presented the results. Associate Professor Tsukasa Torimoto was awarded at ECSJ as a winner of the prize for young electrochemist.   • February 28, 2001 Entrance examination for the Graduate School on Environmental Earth Science for the second chance was held.
  • February 23, 2001 Professor Kazunari Domen (Tokyo Institute of Technology), a visiting professor in our center for this financial year, visited us and we spent a fruitful time with discussion on photocatalysis.
  • February 20, 2001 40,000 accesses since January 1999 have been recorded. We appreciate the visits to our web page. A number of daily access is approximately 55 since 30,000 accesses.tntn
  • February 18 A "Kamakura (snow house)" party was held on a roof balcony of the Professor Ohtani's house. Maximum 12 people entered the kamakura and ate "Zenzai (sweet beans soup)" with rice cakes baked there.
  • February 15-16 Final defense of Master's theses of graduate students of the Graduate School on Environmental Earth Science was held. Mr. Sugiyama, who is the first graduate student of our laboratory, presented a thesis "Design of Highly Active Photocatalyst: Correlation between Physical Properties and Photocatalytic Activities of Transition Metal Loaded Titanium(IV) Oxide" and passed. Congratulations!
  • February 2001 Associate professor Torimoto will be awarded from the Electrochemical Society of Japan as a winner of the prize for young electrochemist, Sano Award. Award presentation is programmed in the Annual Meeting of the society in April at Kobe University.
  • February 2, 2001 Dr. Pal, Dr. Nur and Mr. Sugiyama presented their own work at the Winter Conference of Hokkaido Branches of Chemical Societies. Professor Ohtani had a cold and could not attend. Associate Professor Torimoto chaired their instead.
  • January 25, 2001 Renewal of Japanese home was made after long time since the last update. The English home has left not renewed. The width of pages became to be adjustable when the window size of browser is changed.
  • January 15-26, 2001 A period of acceptance of application form of the entrance examination of Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science for the second chance. We will have two new graduate students from this April, but there are still vacancies in our laboratory.
  • January 1, 2001 A happy new year and new century. A new year card will be uploaded in the Gallery soon.
