  • December 25, 1999 An interim report meeting in our laboratory was held in room 127. All the research members reported the progress from April 1999, except for Dr. Nur from November 1999. It was clarified that all the research projects are proceeding well and some fruitful results have been obtained.
  • December 21,1999 A Christmas Party of Catalysis Research Center was held in Keio Plaza Hotel, a famous hotel in Sapporo. Professor Ohtani, a chairperson of the community of staff in the center arranged this party, including foods and bingo games. Every participants got one of the gifts including free ticket of the hotel!
  • December 4-7,1999 10th CRC International Symposium of Catalysis Research Center, Hokkaido University "Fabrication of Nano-Ordered Materials and Catalytic Functions" was held in the University Hall. Professor Ohtani and Dr. Ikeda presented [presentation] in both oral and poster sessions. Members in our laboratory managed one of the session.
  • November 22, 1999 Closing ceremony of JICA training course was held in Centennial Hall, Hokkaido University. All the trainees including Ms. Sahar (Egypt) received the certificate of completion of the program.tn
  • November 21-25, 1999 Dr. Giuseppe Marci, a member of Professor Palmisano's group in Palermo University, Italy, visits us from November 21, 1999. After collaboration work in our laboratory, he will attend the symposium in Tokyo and then visit Kinki University. A photo was taken during the pump-probe experiment at Professor Uosaki's laboratory.   • November 16, 1999 Dr. Pal visited Professor A. K. Pal at Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Calcutta, India on November 16, 1999, and discussed on the collaboration work.tn
  • November 12, 1999 Final Report Meeting of JICA trainees was held. Ms. Sahar (Egypt) reported "Photocatalytic Degradation of Organic Compounds in Industrial Wastewater by Using TiO2." [66K]tn

  • October 17-22, 1999 The Joint International Meeting of 196th Meeting of The Electrochemical Society and 1999 Fall Meeting of The Electrochemical Society of Japan was held in Honolulu, Hawaii (left: a view from the room in Hilton Hawaiian Village). Professor Ohtani and Dr. Ikeda (right: a scene of his poster presentation, discussing with Professor Iyoda, Tokyo Metropolitan University) attended the meeting and presented the latest results.   • October 15, 1999 Results of entrance examination for Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science were fixed. Ms. Chigusa ABE (undergraduate, Faculty of Science, Hokkaido University) and Ms. Nao NAKAMURA (undergraduate, Hokkaido Educational College) will belong to our laboratory from April 2000. The second chance for the entrance examination will be held.

  • September 26, 1999 At the Annual Meeting of Chemical Society of Japan and relating Symposiums, Professor Bunsho OHTANI made three oral presentations and Mr. Sugiyama gave a poster presentation [see "presentation" for detail]. Mr. Sugiyama and Dr. Ikeda made the poster in the late night before the day of presentation [100K]. Mr. Sugiyama interpreted his results to Ms. Nakamura, who will be a collaborator [96K].tn
  • September 23-26, 1999 Annual Meeting of Chemical Society of Japan and relating Symposiums were held in Hokkaido University. We had many guests (Professor Tokio YAMABE [Kyoto], Professor Hiroshi SEGAWA [Tokyo], Mr. Masaya Kakimoto [Sumitomo Electric Industries], Professor Susumu ONAKA [Tokyo], Professor Takuzo FUNABIKI [Kyoto], Dr. Yuichi ICHIHASHI and Dr. Wen-Jie SHEN [ONRI], Mr. Masaya CHIGANE and Masanobu IZAKI [Osaka Municipal Technical Research Institute]). A photo was taken with Professor Yamabe in the laboratory of Professor Yasushi Tsuji [84K].
  • September 22, 1999 A lecture was given by Associate Professor Dr. Kei MURAKOSHI (Osaka University) (see poster [Japanese] for details). He visited our laboratory as a Collaboration Researcher of CRC.
  • September 20, 1999 A lecture was given by Associate Professor Dr. Teruhisa OHNO (Osaka University) (see poster [Japanese] for details). He visited our laboratory as a lecturer for the JICA trainees.
  • September 9, 1999 Results of entrance examination for Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science were disclosed. Ms. Chigusa ABE (undergraduate, Faculty of Science, Hokkaido University) and Ms. Nao NAKAMURA (undergraduate, Hokkaido Educational College) won the examination and will come to our laboratory from April 2000. Congratulation!

  • August 27, 1999 Mr. Theron left Sapporo to attend the final report seminar and farewell party held by Monbusho in Tokyo and went back to Lyon, France.tntn
  • August 25, 1999 A BBQ party, welcoming Ms. Sahar and Mr. Theron and farewell for Mr. Theron, was held in the backyard of the center. During the party it started to rain and we moved to the yard for bicycles. Who was the "rainman?"
  • July 24, 1999 Mr. Sugiyama presented his results, at first time, at Summer Seminar, Hokkaido Branch of Chemical Society of Japan (Tomakomai). On the next day, he also gave poster presentation at the 39th Aurora Seminar (Noboribetsu) sponsored by Hokkaido Branch of Catalysis Society of Japan, and awarded as the Second Prize of Poster Presentation. Congratulation !!!

  • June 17, 1999 Use of an STM instrument (room 114), Molecular Imaging PicoSTM with a controller, has been started practically. The first image taken by this STM was, of course, graphite surface.tn

  • June 1, 1999 Instructor Dr. Ikeda has joined to the Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science.
  • May 14, 1999 Gas-chromatograph-Mass spectrometer (GC-MS) has been set in room 114. Both electron impact (EI) and chemical ionization are equipped. We expect this is a powerful tool for analysis of unknown products to clarify, for example, reaction mechanism.

  • April 15, 1999 Photocatalysis seminar was held at room 127. This seminar is for members of Professor Sato's lab and ours. The topic "Quartz crystal microbalance study on photoelectrochemical reaction" was presented by Ohtani. This seminar will be held once a week (every Thursday evening).tn
  • April 14, 1999 Welcome party was held at a Chinese restaurant "Chugoku Tohoku Hanten". The members as well as their wives met altogether and enjoyed conversation in Japanese and English. [100K]
  • April 14, 1999 Informal seminar for newcomers to present their previous results. Since there was no time-limitation, discussion lasted from 13:30 to 18:00, just before the welcome party.
  • April 10, 1999 rm114btnrm127The first step of preparation of laboratory has been performed. In the room 127, we set bookshelf hanging on the wall and desks, as well as "iMac" ([80K]). A photoirradiation apparatus ([96K]), GCs, and HPLCs were placed in room 114 ([84K]). Only an ion-exchange resin among the equipments shown in the photo of room 114 was bought newly.
  • April 9, 1999 Entrance ceremony and guidance of Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science was held in University Hall, Hokkaido University. Mr. Noboru Sugiyama is among the freshpersons and belongs officially in our laboratory. [gallery]

  • March 21, 1999 Professor L. Palmisano (Palermo University, Italy) visited our laboratory as a collaborator in the project of international joint research supported by a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research from Monbusho. Professor Palmisano gave an invited talk in the annual meeting of Catalysis Society of Japan held at Sophia University on March 27. [96K+64K]広島焼tn
  • March 17, 1999 A "Hiroshima-Yaki" party celebrating graduation of Mr. Yasuyuki Kitamori [88K], a visiting student from Faculty of Science, and Ms. Akiko Shintani [72K] was held in room 214 with 10 participants. They ate 13 Hiroshima-Yaki, 5 Yakisoba, and 1 "Ton-Tama".
  • March 16, 1999 tnDr. Shigeru Ikeda, an instructor from April, visited the center to discuss the research project and preparation of housing. [36K]
  • March 11, 1999 Results of entrance examination (2nd chance) was opened. Mr. Yasuyuki Kitamori succeeded to work in Institute of Low Temperature Science. It was also decided that Mr. Noboru Sugiyama from Nihon University come to our laboratory.
  • March 9, 1999 tiProfessor Tomokazu Iyoda (Graduate School of Engineering, Tokyo Metropolitan University) visited our laboratory and gave a lecture in Seminar of Catalysis Research Center. The title of his talk was "Design of Assembly of Functional Molecules from Spin Devise to Molecular Imprinting". [59K]
  • March 4, 1999 Construction of change of interior of room 127 started and will be finished in the end of March.
  • March 3, 1999 Entrance examination of Graduate School of Environmental Earth Science (2nd chance) was held.
  • March 3, 1999 Ms. Akiko Shintani, a collaborator working in Uosaki laboratory of Graduate School of Science, Hokkaido University, presented Master's thesis entitled "Fabrication and Characterization of Two-dimensionally Chiral Self-assembled Monolayer".
  • March 2, 1999 Mr. Yasuyuki Kitamori, a visiting student from Uosaki laboratory presented graduation thesis entitled "QCM Study on Preparation and Photoinduced Process of Thin Layer of Titanium Oxide.

  • September 1, 1998 Bunsho Ohtani (associate professor, Uosaki laboratory) became a professor of this laboratory. Some instruments, books, and documents were moved from Graduate School of Science.
